Facilities
We have modern, well equipped surgeries in Ellon and Methlick. Both of these surgeries are RCVS accredited - this means the meet the high standards set by the Royal college of veterinary surgeons. This is a voluntary scheme and only around half of veterinary practices in the UK are members.
Consultations are carried out at both our surgeries Monday to Saturday. These consults are by appointment to ensure you don’t have too long to wait.
Routine Operations are scheduled Monday to Friday but emergency operations can be performed any time of the day or night! We use separate rooms for procedures such as dentals and x-rays. This is to ensure the best possible sterility in our modern, well equipped operating theatres.
We have a range of diagnostic imaging equipment which enables us to examine your animal fully without the need for invasive surgery. This includes digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy.
Our in house laboratories mean samples can be analysed immediately. This enables us to offer a blood test before your pet has an anaesthetic. This is especially important in older animals where we can tailor the drugs we use depending on any abnormalities we find on the blood test. For sick animals it is important that we get results quickly so treatment can be started as soon as possible.
If your pet is coming in for a routine operation, they will be kept in our ward before and after their operation. Here they will be warm and comfortable and will be regularly checked by out nursing staff. At our Ellon branch we have a separate dog and cat ward to minimise the stress to your pet. This can be especially beneficial to cats who get stressed easily.
Sick pets can be hospitalised at either of our branches. Our kennels and cages are easily disinfected between patients and the wards are kept warm to ensure your pet is comfortable during their stay with us. We do not have a vet on site all the time but regular checks will be made on your pet when the surgery is closed. If we feel your pet requires intensive care we may advise referral to a specialist hospital.
A sad part of our job is helping you to say goodbye to your beloved pets. There are a number of options available to you when the time comes to say good bye - it can be done at the surgery or at your home depending what you are most comfortable with. We can also arrange for cremation of your pets remains. We use Elysian fields near Ayr for this service but you are also welcome to arrange a different company, should you prefer. For more information on cremation please visit https://www.pcsonline.org.uk/crematoriums/ayrshire/about-ayrshire-pet-crematorium. We would always advise either discussing all the options with us over the phone, or coming in to see us before the final appointment, so you can make these difficult decisions in advance. This allows you to concentrate on saying good bye at the final appointment.
